Many people dream of travelling the world. But as soon as they have kids the wanderlust fades away, or parents think it’s impossible to discover the world with their children. What a shame! Having kids doesn’t mean you can’t or shouldn’t be adventurous anymore. First of all, your kids will love it. Playing and learning in foreign countries enriches their souls. Secondly, with the right tips and tricks your trip will be the best one you ever had!
The backpack paradises you used to visit in your younger years could still be a good idea. The downside is that the accommodations don’t hold a lot of facilities. That’s fine as long as your kids are happy and cheerful. But when your traveling with kids there will be a time that the kids are tired and whiny. And then you will find out that backpackers are less tolerant than you’d expect them to be.
There are many accommodations that are a bit more luxurious. With a television, a refrigerator and even internet to keep the kids entertained. These hotels/apartment/bungalows aren’t too expensive: with a bit of researching you will find great budget options.
Be selective with luggage
Probably you’ve heart this trick before. Step 1: lay out everything you want to take with you. Step 2: put at least the half of these close back in your closet. You are not going to need these clothes. Almost everyone overpacks only to find out they didn’t need half of it. Safe yourself from carrying overweight backpacks. And if you do realise you forgot something, you will be able to solve it at your destination.
Let your kids pack their own small backpack with their toys to involve them when packing luggage. Win-win situation: they have fun getting ready for the trip and you don’t have to carry their toys the whole trip.
Food and drinks
Although eating from small eateries is a fun experience, you should be careful. Use your common sense: do you trust it? Be careful with meat as it is very perishable. But for example French fries, pop corn and fried banana aren’t that dangerous. Another thing is to let your children drink enough water! Especially when you’re going to a place where it’s hot and humid. Are your kids screaming for ice cream? Only give them pre packed ice cream. Scooping ice cream is probably made from local tap water, which is likely to make them ill.
So, whenever you are planning to go traveling with kids: go for it! Be careful, use your common sense but most importantly: enjoy! They’ll be grown up before you even know it so enjoy their playfulness. Your children will love the travelling and exploration of the world!
